Laser Engraving Wood with Ortur

Laser Engraving Wood with Ortur

Laser engraving is one of the easiest and most precise ways to customize wood. Using a laser engraver, you can create everything from simple text to detailed 3D designs. The laser burns or vaporizes the surface of the wood, leaving clean, sharp lines and patterns.

Thanks to user-friendly software, laser engraving wood can be as easy as printing a document. Just upload your design, set the parameters, and let the machine do the rest.

What You Need to Laser Engrave Wood

  • Laser Engraver: A desktop laser machine like the Ortur LM3 with 10W–40W power is ideal for most wood projects.
  • Design Software: Use the software to create or import your design, adjust laser settings (like power and speed), and preview the engraving.
  • Design File: Supported formats include PNG, JPG, and most vector files.
  • Wood: Choose from natural wood, plywood, or MDF. You can also use blanks like coasters, cutting boards, or plaques.

How to Engrave Wood with an Ortur Laser

Follow these simple steps to get started:

  1. Create or Get a Design
You can design simple text directly in the control software. For more complex graphics, use your favorite design tool or download a pre-made file. You can also try Ortur's Inspiraesth App for quick inspiration.
  2. Place the Wood
Position your wood piece on the machine’s workbed. If it’s a round item (like a Baseball Bat), attach the YRC or YRR for support.
  3. Align Your Design
Match the design with the engraving area. Drag and drop the design in the software to adjust.
  4. Set the Laser Parameters
Adjust speed, power, and focus based on your material. Ortur offers recommended settings for wood—use those as a starting point.
  5. Start Engraving
Click start and let the laser engrave your design.
  6. Finishing Touches (Optional)
To protect the engraving and bring out the wood’s natural beauty, apply a finish like linseed oil or clear varnish.
